Born and raised in Vancouver, Dr. Chen earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of British Columbia. He attended the New England College of Optometry in Boston to pursue his Doctor of Optometry. During his studies he also conducted research in binocular vision and concurrently earned a Master of Science in Vision Science. He received extensive clinical training throughout the United States in primary care, ocular disease, contact lenses, vision therapy, and pediatrics. In the Boston area he interned at the NECO Center for Eye Care, South Boston Community Health Center, and Lynn Community Health Center. He also completed two externships with the US Department of Veterans Affairs at the Portland VA Medical Center in Oregon and the Northport VA Medical Center in New York.
Dr. Chen understands that each patient has unique visual needs related to their occupation or hobbies and tailors his recommendations to maximize comfort and clarity. He also has a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of binocular vision disorders such as convergence insufficiency and offers vision therapy in the office.
In his spare time, Dr. Chen enjoys riding bicycles and playing various string instruments.
